Helloooo 2014! & Update

 photo 68730852-2ec8-4048-9436-e9360bd15df7_zps5a62fbf8.jpg

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone enjoyed the first day of the year and I wish you all a phenomenal and happy 2014.

I apologise for the lack of activity over the last couple of months.  A lot of stuff has been going on and I just haven't had the chance to log on.  First I had my final university exams so a lot of time was spent studying to make sure I overcome the final hurdles to graduate.  Five years worth of university finally coming to an end.  Then following exams, as my reward to myself, I went on a holiday to America!  I got back about a week ago.  It was absolutely amazing and so much fun.  You can count on some upcoming posts about my trip.

Most Worn Winter Things Tag 2012

The 'Most Worn Summer Things Tag' has been circulating a lot recently, but since it's been winter over here, I thought I'd do a winter version.

1.  Most worn nail polish

OPI Designer...De Better.  It is from the Muppets Collection that I think was released sometime last year.  I really like glittery/metallic/foiled finish polishes and this polish, when you look up close is such a unique colour.  It's a warm silvery colour with copper flecks through it.

2.  Most worn scent

I haven't been wearing perfumes much this season.  But I guess I could say my favourite scent has been, strangely, my hairspray.  (More on it below)

3.  Most worn hair product

Davines No 7 Crystal Fixative Lacquer.  This hairspray was so freaking expensive, I got it from a hair salon for $35.  I have never bought pricey hair products before but decided to get this since I had a $20 voucher to spend on product with my hair cut.  I use hairsprway on a daily basis just to keep my fringe in place.  You don't need much of this at all for great hold, plus it doesn't give your hair that fake looking shine like some hairsprays do.  Normally, I probably wouldn't repurchase this because it is so darn expensive.  (You can find it online for around $20, but even that is still pretty pricey.)  But the thing that has absolutely sold me on the product, is the scent.   It's kind of a vanilla, sweet, maybe coconut, soft scent.  If someone made a perfume with this scent, I would be all over it.  And in any case, it takes me ages to finish a bottle of hairspray since I only use a little everyday, so I do get my money's worth.

4.  Most worn bag

I got this bag from an op shop a while ago for about $7.  I've worn it to death and it's starting to fall apart.  It's just a basic black bag, nothing flashy or particularly trendy.  It's a great size and easily fits all my essentials.

IMG_9342

5.  Most worn shoes

Brown western style ankle boots from ASOS.  I got these last winter and I've just worn them so much that I've completely worn out the heel cap and into the wooden part of the heel.  They're not too tall and are quite wide so they accommodate my fat feet.  They are easy to match with anything, plus they're wide around the ankle so you can tuck jeans in.
IMG_9349

6.  Most worn accessory

Fossil rose gold watch (model:ES 2859).  I've worn this almost everyday since I got it which was over a year ago.  I just love it.  The face is the perfect size for my wrist.  It's big enough to give me the 'men's style' look, but not too big where it looks like it's swallowing my hand.  I just love everything about it and I always get so many compliments on it.

IMG_9352

Thin collar necklaces from Diva.  I bought both the gold and rose gold version.  I like that it's not too chunky or thick, which is what a lot of collar necklaces seem to be at the moment.  They look great on a variety of necklines, so I've worn them with just about everything.  Recently I've been loving how they look under collared shirts.

7.  Most worn clothing item

Sportsgirl black coat.  This winter was absolutely freezing.  I've been throwing this on, over any outfit and I'd be set for the ridiculous weather.

IMG_9364

8.  Most worn foundation

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder (beige).  This is a most worn product all year round really.  I don't use liquid foundation daily, I just throw on some concealer and then powder my whole face with this.  I've gone through at least 3 of these, and I've majorly hit pan on this one.  It has good coverage and stays matte the longest out of all the powders I've tried and is a good price.  My only issue is that it isn't the right colour for me, it's a touch too pink.

IMG_9368

Maybelline Superstay 24 Hr Makeup (Classic beige).  I only wear liquid foundation when I go to work or to an event.  I rediscovered this foundation this season.  This foundation isn't as good as my other ones at staying matte and fresh for a long time.  But since it's been so cold, my oiliness hasn't been as bad, so this foundation doesn't break down as quickly.  This foundation is matte, but I don't think as matte as MAC Studio Fix Fluid, so it's better for winter since it gives my face a bit more dimension.  It's really smooth and easy to blend.  However, this foundation isn't the perfect shade for me.  I have yellow undertones and this foundation is a bit more neutral and dries down a bit darker than it applies.  Still on the hunt for the perfect colour low end foundation.  I tend to reserve my higher end foundations for special events.

IMG_9367

9.  Most worn blush/bronzer

Nars Desire.  I've been wearing this blush almost everyday.  It's bright, matte, really pigmented and just makes you look alive.

IMG_9370

10.  Most worn lip product

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Blush.  Again this is another of my all-year-round most worn products.  This shade is basically my lips but better.  I keep it in my bag almost all the time.  It's really subtle and goes with everything.

IMG_9371

11.  Most worn mascara

Max Factor Aqua Lash.  This was one of my favourites a while ago but I kind of forgot about it then rediscovered it this winter.  This mascara is great for volume but average for length.  Max Factor has recently revamped their mascara collection so this mascara along with a couple others have been discontinued.

IMG_9373

12.  Most worn eyeshadow

Too Faced Matte Eyeshadow Palette.  My most worn colour specifically has been Tufted Suede (top left).  It looks like a pretty boring colour, a light brown, warm shade.  But I've been reaching for this a lot as a subtle crease colour and as a blending colour between my lid and brow bone.  A good staple to have.

I'm boycotting Inglot at Highpoint

Photobucket

I want to say first that I am a HUGE fan of Inglot products and own a fair bit. So I have nothing against the makeup itself. I have been boycotting the Inglot store at Highpoint Shopping Centre for almost a year now because of a very bad experience I had which I thought I'd share.

So about a year ago, my sister, who isn't as makeup obsessed as me (lol), went to Inglot and bought a bunch of face products. When I finished work that day, I met up with her to continue shopping. She showed me the Inglot products she bought. One of the products she bought was a loose face powder, from looking at it, in my opinion, it looked wayyy too pink toned for her (for convenience sake, let's refer to this shade as "Shade A"). I asked her if the makeup artist had tried it on her and she told me that the makeup artist didn't try any of the products on her face at all, which surprised me. We decided to go back to Inglot so that I could try the loose face powders on her to see if that was the right shade.

So looking at the powders, there was another shade that was a much better tone for her (let's call that "Shade B"). I tried it on her face and it blended seemlessly. As I was doing that, a makeup artist (different to the one that served my sister earlier), walked passed and said, "that colour is definitely the right one for her." So with my opinion and a professional makeup artist agreeing, I had no doubt that this was the right shade. So I approached that makeup artist who was at the counter and asked if we could exchange Shade A for Shade B. She looked at us and in an annoyed voice said "why?" I told her that it was because I felt Shade B matched better, and reminded her that she also thought so as well from her comment earlier. She bluntly replied that Shade A was fine. At this point I paused and my sister and I looked at each other not really knowing what else to say. The makeup artist got even more annoyed seeing that we were not satisfied with her answer and so let out a huge sigh, threw the pen she was holding down on the counter and said, "Come here" and walked to the loose powders. She swatched the two shades on her hand and said, "See, they're practically the same." I started to explain to her that although the shades were similar, I felt that Shade B suited my sister better since it had more yellow tones. Whilst I was explaining, she rolled her eyes and sighed. She then looked at my sister and asked in the most condescending and arrogant tone, "Do you even know what this powder is for?" My sister replied that you apply it over your foundation to set it. The makeup artist got even more irritated and then ordered my sister to come closer. She then grabbed my sister's chin and roughly dusted one side of her face with Shade A and the other with Shade B. Then exclaimed, "See, they're the same, you can't even tell the difference, it doesn't matter what shade you use." Then she walked away. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, putting her rude attitude aside, a makeup artist telling me that it didn't matter what shade we used?? Why on earth is there such a large range of shades if "you can't tell the difference anyway"?! Yes I agree that the appearance of various shades of loose powders on the skin is similar since it doesn't really offer much coverage, but I would expect a makeup artist to understand the importance of finding the best match for your skin with face products and also that the difference in shades and undertones really matters.

My sister and I still felt that we should exchange for Shade B. And given that makeup artist had even said herself earlier that Shade B was the right shade, we decided to go ahead and ask for the exchange. As we approached the counter, the makeup artist was standing there bitching about us with another makeup artist! She wasn't whispering or anything, it was loud and clear. She was saying things like "those stupid girls," "they don't know anything," etc. Even when we were standing right there in front of her at the counter, she kept bitching with the other makeup artist and going on about how the shades look the same. She eventually stopped, turned to us and bluntly said, "What do you want?" We told her we wanted to exchange the powder and she responded "Fine." She went and grabbed the other shade and processed the exchange without saying a thing.

So that is the reason why I have been boycotting the Highpoint Inglot store. I was absolutely appalled by this service. I work part time in retail myself and I know the importance every word or action I say or do as it reflects on the brand. Customers are what make and break retail businesses. I'm not usually one to complain about customer service in any store because I know how tough the job can be, but that makeup artist's behaviour was just so far beyond any bad customer service I have experienced, not only was she blatantly rude, but she also continued to complain about us right in front of our faces. I'm not saying I'm the perfect sales assistant who's chirpy and friendly 24/7. But even on my worst days, I would never belittle a customer or give them attitude.

Like I said earlier, I really enjoy Inglot products and absolutely love their eyeshadows. The Highpoint store is the closest to me. The other stores are much further away and inconvenient to get to and so I haven't been able to buy anything from them for a while. It is a shame that one Inglot makeup artist can taint my image of the brand.

Have you ever experienced anything like this?

Uni 2011...over!

I finished my last exam for the year on Monday! Woo! I feel like my holidays are so jam packed. Time just seems to fly by even when I'm just lounging around on the couch for the whole day. I definitely need to get on top of things and not let these holidays runaway from me.

My boyfriend got me these baby cupakes when I finished exams. He's a sweetheart =)

Well that's my little update.

Hope you're enjoying your weekend.

Update 07/03/11

Photobucket

Hey guys!

I haven't posted much at all for the past couple of weeks so I thought I would give you a quick update.

I'm back at uni now. Semester started last week. I feel like this is the first time I've felt somewhat motivated about sitting down and doing some study in my entire uni life, so I'm going to try to hold onto it and see how long that lasts lol.
Photobucket
I've also got a new laptop now, the Toshiba Satellite Pro T130 in red. I'm pretty happy with it so far, only downer is that images appear differently on this compared to my old laptop. I guess the contrast and saturation is different, but I haven't been able to change it. So my blog layout and the pictures in general appear much more washed out on this screen, therefore this is a pretty big concern for me when it comes to editing photos and stuff. Although this did make me wonder how my blog appears on your screens...like is what you see more like my old laptop or new one? lol Anyway, so if you notice my photos and swatches appearing a little different from now, you'll know why lol.

That's pretty much all.
Enjoy your week!

Beauty and a Budget presents 12 Days of Christmas

Photobucket

Christmas is arriving so fast! I'm sure many of you are finding it difficult to fit in blogging, or reading blogs, etc. in this busy time of year. You're all probably freaking out and panicking about finding the perfect gift for a special someone.

But I hope you all can take some time to relax and enjoy the holidays and visit Dawna on her blog Beauty and a Budget. I know this is very last minute, but she is spreading some Christmas cheer with her 12 Days of Christmas giveaway, the giveaway ends on the 8th December 2010, so you only have a small window of opportunity left.

One of the things I love most about this time of year is Christmas decorations being put up all over the city, in shop windows, on the streets, on houses... Just looks amazing and beautiful. This year, my Christmas wish would be...to be able to spend the Christmas holidays with my boyfriend one year, hopefully soon. We've been together for over 3.5 years, and I've spent all past 3 Christmas' without him as he travels overseas at the end of every year with his family or other reasons. Hope he'll stay here one year.

Hope your holidays are filled with love and joy. Only 17 more sleeps!
